Push Me Mail will help you saving battery life while providing you a way sent you notifications for new e-mail arrivals on your POP3 or IMAP e-mail accounts, so you'll be able to disable the nasty polling setting which is hurting your battery so badly.
Just load the app, register your e-mail addresses and we will do the dirty job of polling all your accounts and notify you when new e-mail has arrived, it is that simple.
By the way we have not forgot the fact that you might not want to receive any audible notifications during the night so there's the option of only displaying a visual notification whenever an e-mail arrives, we call it: silent mode.
